We don't receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.
I combine my experience as a curriculum specialist and teacher with my travels around the world to offer my students the most engaging and innovative learning experience possible.
My students deserve respect, support and structure in an active, engaging learning environment.
My professional practice should continually improve through research and reflection.
I will collaborate with my colleagues and share my successes (and failures).
To be my best, I need to teach in a school community that believes in a growth mindset for all.
Professional Development Offerings:
As a Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Specialist for the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Pennsylvania, I provided professional development for administrators and teachers. Even as a classroom teacher, I enthusiastically offered training sessions for my colleagues, administrators and parent groups.
Among the many topics I offered:
Innovative Social Studies Teacher
As a social studies teacher for Keystone National High School from 2009-2011, I strove to provide highly engaging online learning activities for my students who were located around the world. Always searching for exciting and effective resources, methods and assessment tools, I embraced and shared new ideas with my colleagues.
Project-based Computer Science Teacher
From 1999-2007, I was a middle and high school computer science teacher in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. Through the use of a class website, I instituted a project-based classroom. Here is a look at my 8th grade computers course from 2007. At the time, we were developing renewable energy web design projects in cooperation with the science department. I found that by directing students to the website for instructions, announcements and assessments, I was able to reduce lecture time and increase direct interaction with project groups. I was honored to receive the 2004 Merit Service Award for taking the initive to create a school website.
Graduate-level Course Instructor: The 21st Century Graduate
Offered through the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Pennsylvania, I teach the online graduate course The 21st Century Graduate. This course targets education professionals working with secondary students with the purpose of promoting effective implementation of 21st century skills into their individual classroom assignments.
